A Muse Session: Masculine Style, Music, and Western Grit

One of my favorite parts of building my Muse Portfolio is collaborating with people who bring their own personality, creativity, and story into the frame. Recently, I had the chance to photograph an incredible male model who did exactly that. His session blended classic style, artistic expression, and rugged western energy in a way that made the entire shoot feel cinematic.

Starting with Classic Style

We began the session with a sharp, tailored suit. There’s something timeless about a well-fitted suit on camera—it immediately creates a strong presence and a sense of quiet confidence.

The look was polished but relaxed. Instead of stiff poses, we focused on natural movement—leaning into the chair, adjusting the jacket, hands loosely resting while looking off toward the light. These subtle moments often create the most powerful images.

A suit in portrait photography isn’t just about formality; it’s about storytelling. It creates a foundation of strength and elegance that contrasts beautifully with the other looks we explored during the session.

Adding Music to the Story

One of the most unique elements of this session was the accordion he brought along as a prop. Incorporating something personal into a shoot instantly transforms it from a standard portrait into something far more meaningful.

The accordion added motion, texture, and character. Instead of simply holding it, we played with different ways to pose—sitting with it across his lap, standing while adjusting the straps, and leaning into the instrument as if mid-performance.

Props like this create storytelling layers in a photograph. They show personality, passion, and artistry all at once.

Western Influence

For the final look, we shifted into something with a completely different energy: a western-inspired outfit. The change in wardrobe brought a rugged, grounded aesthetic that contrasted beautifully with the polished suit from earlier in the session.

The western look leaned into a more relaxed and confident vibe—standing tall, hands resting naturally, shoulders slightly angled toward the light. Western fashion carries a sense of heritage and individuality, and it photographs incredibly well.

Combining this look with textured backgrounds created a visual story that felt bold and authentic.

Why Muse Sessions Matter

Muse sessions are one of my favorite ways to expand the creative side of photography. They allow space to experiment with lighting, styling, and storytelling in ways that traditional sessions sometimes don’t.

For this session, the combination of a classic suit, musical instrument, and western wardrobe created a diverse portfolio set that highlighted masculine confidence and individuality.

Every person who steps in front of my camera brings something unique, and sessions like this remind me why I love creating portraits that celebrate personality and style.
